Inspection principle
Food packaging inspection includes bottle quality defect inspection, size inspection, liquid level inspection, quantity inspection and other inspection items. Traditional manual inspection cannot keep up with production requirements, and now labor costs are rising, and manual inspection efficiency and accuracy are low. More enterprises and manufacturers are seeking new machine technologies to solve these problems, so machine vision has received widespread attention and application.
Identifying clearly defective bottles with a camera is a challenge. Translucent objects are difficult for camera lenses to "see", and defective bottles do not have a predictable shape. KEYE TECH solved this problem for the customer and integrated a customized vision system for bottle inspection into their existing production line. The system is able to handle clear, defective and opaque bottles of different sizes with a budget friendly solution.
Inspection details
The vision system parameters have been agreed with the customer and a PO has been issued. Intide Technology developed the project plan and completed the electromechanical design review. The defective bottle detection system is fully tested in the laboratory.
A photo eye triggers each bottle's vision system as the bottles cross the line. The bottle is illuminated through a backlight, creating a contrasting view of the bottle. If the contrast is black, the bottle is made of opaque material. If the contrast is gray, the bottle is frosted. If the light does not create contrast, the bottle is transparent. The Patmax geometric pattern discovery tool identifies various aspects of each bottle, including bottle height, width and asymmetrical features (if any).
The image eye triggers the camera to take individual snapshots of each bottle that passes the line. Smart cameras process images inside the camera and record the data in a custom-developed database. Data point outliers outside the process control spectrum can trigger faults. On the production line before the packaging area, built-in stoppers will eliminate defective or damaged bottles.
